B-2 Spirit - Information Report

B-2 Spirit

Introduction
The flying wing design is an American bomber with a crew of two. Military aircraft designers learned that there was a new way to keep away from missiles. The idea was to build an aircraft that could stop radar signals. The total cost of the B-2 Spirit was $2.1 billion dollars per aircraft in 1997.

What is it known for?
In order to make the B-2 Spirit more effective many advanced systems were involved in its design. The B-2 is the only aircraft that can carry large air to surface weapons. It was responsible for destroying 33% bombing targets in the first eight weeks. It went into service on 1997 as the second aircraft to have advanced technology.

First Flight
Being introduced on April 1997 the first flight of the aircraft was on 17 July 1989. As of September 2013 about 80 pilots flew the B-2. A number of upgrades have been added to the B-2. Each aircraft has a pilot in the left seat and mission commander in the right.

Features
The B-2 is a flying wing aircraft meaning it has no main body or tail. Most of the B-2 Spirit is made out of carbon graphite. In this aircraft only one crew member can sleep in a camp bed, use a toilet, or prepare a hot meal.  It has supply for a third crew member if needed.

Conclusion

President George Bush announced that there would only be 20 B-2 aircraft's allowed to be built. A total of 20 B-2's remain in service with the United States Air Force. There have been no examples of a missile being launched at a B-2.

Battle Sheets

L.I - to investigate coordinates
Today for maths I had to play a game of battle sheets with my classmate Mataio. The way to play this game is you have to have two players. You both have a Aircraft Carrier, Battle Ship, Cruiser, Destroyer and Frigate. You both have to place those ships anywhere in the top left box. Then under the box you have to enter  x of where you think their ship is. You keep going until one of you get all five of the opponents ships. As you can see in this game I won and Mataio had lost. The difference between me and Mataio is that I spread my ships out and Mataio didn't. This game make use strategy and your coordinates skills and is a very fun and brilliant game and that's why I recommended this game for you.

LS1 Geometry

L.I - To investigate 2D and 3D shape
Today for maths I have been learning about geometry. I have been learning about Faces, Edges and Vertices. In this DLO I had to find objects in the classroom to record the faces, edges and vertices of the objects. I also added images and titles to show you what the item is. I learned what faces, edges and vertices mean in geometry. I found it hard to find objects to record the three things on.

Aviator Speech

Fraidon:
Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24th, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas in the home of her grandfather. Earhart was the child of Amelia Otis Earhart and Samuel Staton Earhart.

Tiava:
At the age of 10 Amelia saw her first aircraft at the Iowa State fair. She described it to be a thing of rusty wire and wood that did not look interesting to her at all.

Fraidon:
Earhart graduated from Chicago's Hyde Park High School in 1916. She kept a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about successful women.  She began junior college at Ogontz School in Pennsylvania, but did not complete her program.

Tiava:
In Long Beach, on December 28, 1920, Earhart and her father visited an airfield where Frank Hawks gave her a ride that would forever change Earhart's life.

Fraidon:

Another pioneer female taught Amelia Earhart how to fly a plane. On May 21st Amelia accomplished her goal of flying solo across the atlantic ocean. She took off from Newfoundland, Canada, at 7:12 p.m. on May 20, in her Lockheed Vega. At one point she dropped almost 3,000 feet.

Tiava:

Sadly Amelia Earhart’s adventures came to an end when she disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937.

Aviator Timeline

L.I - to scan for key information and to skim for general information
Today for reading I had worked on a timeline with my class Fraidon. We had to research what Richard Pearse and The Wright Brothers did up to their first flight. We had to make a timeline showing what they did they date of the event and who was first. I learnt that Richard Pearse made a powered plane before the Wright Brothers did. I found it hard to find the date of the events.

Aviator Conclusion

L.I - to write a concluding paragraph
Today for writing I had to chose out of Amelia Earhart, Jean Batten, Richard Pearse and the Wright Brothers to do a concluding paragraph on. I had chosen to write my conclusion about Amelia Earhart. I had chosen Amelia Earhart because she has set very interesting records. I learned a lot more about Amelia Earhart just by researching for my conclusion. I found it hard to gather information and turn it into a ending.

Classroom Measurements

L.I - to accurately interpret data
Today for maths I had to make a thumb rule. To make the thumb rule I had to measure the width and length of my thumb. Once I was finished I had to make a google spreadsheet and record what I measured and what the mm, cm, m, km, thumbs of the item were. I learned to accurately interpret data and found it hard to get the measurements.

Line Graph

L.I.To accurately present data and to accurately interpret data
Today for maths I had to go onto a spreadsheet. On that spreadsheet was Auckland's weather for all of the months (this weather data is not real). This spreadsheet was recording the Average Temp (C), Average Rain (mm) and Average Wind (Km/ph) for every 12 months. The only month that hadn't been done was July. I had to find out the average temp, rain and wind for that month. I did that by adding up all the temp, rain and wind under the July column on the spreadsheet. I had use the spreadsheet to find the sum of my total from all of the 3 subjects. After that I would the three number in the right columns under July. Once finished I had to buddy up with another person. We had to take the data from the spreadsheet and turn it into a line graph. We also had to do the same but on a book or paper. To tell which one was temp, rain and wind we had to put them in different colors and right down what the color was for. My partner Jeremiah had done the line graph online and I had done the line graph on paper. This line graph is telling us that the chances of rain in March are low and the chances of needing a rain coat in June is high. The chances of having wind in august and June are not that high. I found it hard to make sure that there was enough space for everything to fit into the book page. I have also learned a new word which was probability. Probability means is the chance that something will happen or how likely it is that some event will happen. For example 10% "chance of rain".

25 word summary

L.I - to infer information from the text
Today for reading I had to read a text called High Fliers. After reading we got into pairs and as one person reads the book the other person had to point out all the nouns, adjectives and verbs that we could find. In between the parents we had to take turns reading. Once finished we had to write down all the keywords into a goggle doc. Using a five by five grid my partner and I could only use 25 words from the keywords to summaries the text. I found it hard to put the words in the grid to make sense, but in the end I learned how to gather keywords and turn it into a short summary.

Explanation Text

How do airplanes fly?

Airplanes are a type of flying transport that will get you from one side of the earth to the other. The first flight of an airplane was the wright brothers who flew the first successful airplane on December 17, 1903. There are four forces of flight Thrust, Drag, Lift and Weight.

Thrust is produced by the big engines located on the plane’s wings. Thrust helps create the force that makes the plane fly, lift. Thrust has to overcome drag for it to go forward. For example if I threw a paper plane my arm would give it thrust.

Drag goes the opposite direction as the object. Drag is caused by everything of the plane. Drag is the force that slows down the object going the other way. If the plane was to take off drag must be lower than the thrust.

Weight on a airplane is caused by gravity. Weight acts in a downward direction toward the center of the earth. During a flight the aircraft burns up its fuel, so the weight of the airplane constantly changes.

Lift is the force that prevents the weight of an airplane and holds the airplane in the air. Lift is created by differences in air pressure. Most of the lift is generated by the wings.

The modern airplanes have seat belts so you can be safe and enjoy your ride. Airplanes can get you anywhere for example if you like to travel an airplane can take you over oceans and safely get you to your destination.

Balloon Experiment

For the last week my group and I have been studying rockets. Today for lesson 4 we had to do a balloon experiment. For this experiment We had to make a copy of a spreadsheet to record the data on. We had 3 balloon's which were pink, blue and orange. We would test each balloon 3 times. First we had to put a 7 meter fishing line going through a straw. The 7 meter fishing line went from one wall to another. After that we had to attache our first blown up balloon which was the pink balloon shaped like a circle to the straw. Then we would let go of the tip of the balloon and it would go flying forward. We would do the same thing for every balloon. The Orange Balloon was shaped differently from the blue and pink balloon. We would measure how far the balloon went and record the meters on the spreadsheet. Once we were finished we had to add up the meters in all 3 columns. After that we turned the data into a bar graph. This graph shows you that the pink balloon got further than the orange and blue balloon. The blue balloon went further then the orange balloon by 2.5 meters. The Pink balloon went for the longest amount of time and the orange balloon went for a smaller amount of time. This study has used newton's third law to collect accurate information.

Rockets - Lesson 1

Today for Inquiry I had to make a google drawing on Newton's 3rd Law. In the google drawing I had to put in pictures of my understanding of the Newton's 3rd Law. Once we finished we watched a video about Newton's 3rd Law. In the video it showed use that the amount of force we put on the floor the would give back the same amount of force. After that we went outside to do some experimenting with a netball, stress ball and hack sack. From this session I learnt what the Newton's 3rd Law meant.

First Flying Machine

L.I - to infer information using clues and prior knowledge
Today for reading I had read a text called First flying machine. After we had to use clues from the text to find out what kind of text it was. Once finished we had to go on a group slide and write down all the inferences we had. We also had to write down the clue from the text and our prior knowledge for our inference. Once I finished my inferences I had checked through the slides. After doing the session I learnt how to infer and found out what kind of text the story was.

How many times a side is rolled on a 6 sided dice

L.I - to accurately interpret data
Today for maths I had to roll a dice and write down the number and how many times it was rolled by using a tally chart. My MUST DO for maths was to create a bar graph on anything I wanted. I had chosen the dice game. I had rolled a 6 sided dice 40 times and recorded the data on a google spreadsheet. In this image you can see on the X axis that I had numbered it 1 to 6 because that was all the numbers on the dice. On the Y axis I had numbered it to my highest number. From my data I had found out that 3 & 4 were rolled the most times and 1 & 2 were rolled the least amount of times. My highest number was 9 and my lowest number was 4. I found it hard to keep track of the 40 numbers on a spreadsheet.

Strategy Placemat

L.I - To comprehend word problems
L.I - to chose ''the best'' strategy to solve the problem
Today for maths I had to chose two maths problems from a variety of problems. Once I have chosen my two maths problems I had to found out what the problem is asking me to do addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Then I would have to write down my two different strategies I used to solve the problem. Once I was finished someone will check my work and write what they think about it in the check and Reflection box. I learnt how to use multiple strategies to solve one equation, but I also found it hard to pick a strategy to solve the problem.

Adelie Penguin

Today for Inquiry I had to chose a animal to do some research on. I had chosen a Adelie Penguin for my animal. Once I had finished researching I had to make a google slides answers questions I was given. I inserted videos and photos for a beater understanding of my explanations. In the process I learnt a lot about Adelie Penguins like why they migrate and when they migrate. I found it hard to find the right video to insert into the slide that will suit the description.

Emoticon Story

L.I - to infer information about characters in a text
Today for reading I had to skim and scan a story called The Wonders of Flight to find all of the characters. Once I have found all the characters I have to chose one character which was Luis. I had to keep track of Luis's feelings through out the whole story. Then I had to fill out a google drawing writing down what he or she is feeling on that page. I also had to write down my proof and insert an image of what the feeling was. I learnt how to know how a character is feeling in the text. I found it hard to find the write emoji to go with the feeling of the character.

The Fall

L.I - To write a short narrative
Today for writing I had to write a narrative using the six prompts I was given. Once I had chosen one I had to make a brainstorm about it. Then I planned it out using a google docs template. Once I was finished with the planning I had started to write my narrative which I decided to call THE FALL. I had to make proper paragraphs and have at least 5 simple sentences, 3 compound sentences and 3 complex sentences. I had found it difficult to use some really good words that would create a brilliant image in the readers head.

Valerie Adams

Today for Inquiry I had to chose a 2016 Olympian or Paralympian. I had chosen Valerie Adams as my Olympic Athlete. For the task I had to ask the 5 W's & H which are Who, What, When, Why, Where and How. I had done some research on my questions and found answers. I really had struggled to think of questions to ask the one and only Valerie Adams, but I got through it. I had provided some photos and a video for a better explaining of what she looked like.

Method

L.I  - To investigate the 3 multiplication strategies.
Today for maths I had to use one of the maths problems I was given. I had chosen the problem 13 x 14.
For this task I had to learn two methods and one method I already knew which was the Japanese Method. The three methods were the Japanese Method, Korean Method and the Algorithm. I had made google slides showing each method solving the equation. I found it difficult for me to draw the methods out on google slide because I was use to doing it faster on a whiteboard.

The Drone

Basic Addition

L.I - To add and subtract number using column method
In this activity I had to answer 2 to 3 digit questions. I had us the column method which is just like the written algorithm. The way you use the column method is simple. For example 116 899. 9+6 in the ones column equals 15. 90+10 from the tens column equals 100. 800+100 from the hundreds column equals 900. Add 100 and 900 together it make 1,000. Add 1,000 and 15 together and it equals 1,015. I found it hard to explain how the column method worked.

Today my and my partners have made a google drawing on advertising.
We had to make our own advertisement. An advertisement should have Emotive Language, Rhetorical question and Repeated words. We had to create a title for our advertisement and we came up with
"The Dronebotic drone is back".
I found finding the picture hard because I had to write down the person who took the photo and the licence

Word Web

LT: to find the most important {main} idea in the book.
To day I read a book and the book was about a how to make a non polluting car and then we had to find the the word that we don't Nought and then we found 3 word and Thoth word are vigorously,Dilemmas and Frictions.

Rocket Ship Game

L.I - To apply Place Value
Today I had played a game of Rocket Ship with Fraidon and Abdurrahim. In this game you are to draw a Place Value House with five Columns numbered to ten, hundred or more. Next you roll a dice what ever number you get has to be written in in one of the five columns. You have to add all the numbers up smallest to biggest. If you have a lower number than the number under you're out. If you fill up the Place Value House correctly you stand up and say BLAST OFF. As you can see in the image above this description is a game of Rocket Ship. In this game I had lost because the number under 501 is lower than 506. In this game you are using your knowledge to apply Place Value to win the game. My strategy was to fill one column up at a time but I found that hard as I kept getting lower numbers then others. This game could be played with how ever much people you want.

Place Value

L.I - Demonstrate Place Value
In this presentation I had to explain - What is a Place Value House?, How does a Place Value House work?. I found it hard to explain how a Place Value House worked, because it was a long description and I had to make the explanation good enough for people to understand.

Word Web

LI: We are learning to find most important (main) idea in a text.

LI: To find related words in a text.

Today for Reading tongariro group had to read a text called Neighborhood Niggles. After reading the text we talked about finding the most important/main idea in a text for example if it was the The Three Little Pigs the main Idea would about three little pigs building their own house made out of different materials which included: Sticks, Straws, and Bricks. After that we listed words from the text that we were unsure or struggled on. I learnt what Suitable means. It means Appropriate for the purpose for example wearing a singlet is more suitable then wearing a jumper when it is summer.

What to do

1)Use the strategy of splitting a number into parts to do these        additions.
2) Do the problems in your head first.
3) Check you are correct by writing them down. Show them like the examples above.

1) 28 + 14 = 42
20 + 10 = 30
