Week 1 - Day 4 - Activity 2

In this activity I went onto the website Rangatahi Tu Rangatira to learn about the traditional Maori games. I picked Poi Toa. The poi used in this game are made for kicking, throwing and passing. It is played to help improve your coordination, passing and handling of the poi. Some of the rules are to not deliberately hit you opponent above the waist and your poi must remain in motion. There are different activities that an be played such as: bull rush, relays, dodging and passing.

  1. Hi Tiava,
This is perfect post, you did complete the activity well by explaining the basics of the game and some of the rules. I liked how you describe in your post that you need to learn about the Maori games. Also, it was very clever of you to include a video showing how the game works and its benefits such as coordination and so on.

  2. Hi Tiava,
That seems like a great way to play a game and get fit and sharpen your reflexes at the same time. I can see why the Maori Warriors used it to train.

    Keep it up

  3. Hello Tiava
Great job on completing this summer learning journey activity. Poi Toa sounds like a fun game. I like how you described how to play the game in detail instead of writing a couple of sentences. Keep up the awesome work.
