In this activity I learned that a long time ago the European settlers did not understand the Maori language because they did not have what we have now. For this activity my challenge is to turn the five phrases I was given back into English or Maori using google translate.
- Nau mai ki Aotearoa - Welcome to New Zealand
- Tiava is my name - Ko Tiava toku ingoa
- What is your name? - He aha to ingoa?
- He pai taku te takaro i te whutupaoro - I like to play rugby
- Where do you come from? - No hea koe?
Hi Tiava,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see that you are progressively and qualitatively doing the program activities.
You answer this activity well. I like how you always explained the task in the beginning of your post as this add context for your followers.
You mentioned on your first sentence that the "European settlers did not understand the Maori language because they did not have what we have now" which is? Once I read the next sentence I realized what you mean. Keep in mind that when you are written a sentence it is very important to be clear and specific with the idea you want to communicate.
Also, for the future consider to add a picture to your post to make it even more interesting and engaging. In this case it could be a photo of a meeting between the maori and the european people.
Kia Kaha,
Patricia
Hi Tiava,
ReplyDeleteIs rugby your favourite sport to play? I can imagine that back then when European settlers first arrived that rugby would be brutal with not very many rules.
Great job
Hello Tiava
ReplyDeleteGood job on finishing this summer learning journey activity. You translated these phrases brilliantly. My favorite sport is soccer but I also like rugby. Keep up the amazing work Tiava.
