Week 2 - Day 2 - Activity 2

In this activity I was looking at a painting by Tamara de Lempicka called Self Portrait. I found this painting fascinating because there is more to it then what meets the eye. I would give this picture a 4/5 because I feel like there is an interesting backstory to this painting.

    Mālō e lelei Tiava,
    You made a very interesting observation about this painting, which is the fact that it does indeed provoke a curiosity about the woman story. Who is she? Where she is going? I like art that engage the public and prompt us to create theories. Do you thinks she is escaping? I think so, my theory is that she is leaving her family and the prospect of a wealthy marriage to live and independent life and pursue a career as an artist. Here you go, this is my theory. What do you think?

    Hi Tiava,
    I noticed that she is wearing some sort of helmet, do you think that has anything to do with her car? She might be a woman car racer, but there is not enough detail to be completely sure.

    Good job on completing this summer learning journey activity. I would also give the painting a 4 out of five because it's a pretty good painting but it's not one that I really like. Keep up the amazing work Tiava!
