Week 1 - Day 1 - Bonus Activity

In this activity I watched a video of Waka Ama race, The Waka Ama race is a sporting competition that both boys and girls can compete in. You have to use your paddle to get your waka past the finish line first. One day I would like to participate in this race because I am very competitive and I enjoy trying new things.

  1. Aloha Tiava
My name is Sarah and I go to Glen Innes School
I loved how you explained what the Waka Ama was, and how you also added the video on your blog that was a good idea. If you were in the Waka Ama race which country would you represent?

  2. Hi Tiava,

Ruby here from the Summer Learning Journey! Wow! You've been doing some great work getting through all these activities. Well done!

Waka Ama racing looks like it could be a lot of fun! It's great that you would want to give it a go. You would need to do a lot of practice and make sure you could work well as a team. What sorts of activities do you think you could do to practice for the race?

I wouldn't like to be in a Waka Ama race because I am not very good at swimming and would be afraid of falling out!

I look forward to reading more of your blog over the summer.

  3. Hi Tiava,
I enjoy water sports so rowing in a waka would be an amazing experience for me, and I can see that it would take a lot of upper body strength to win one.

    Keep it up

  4. Hello Tiava
Great job on finishing this summer learning journey activity. I would also like to participate in a Waka Ama race. It would be really fun. I like how you added a video of a real Waka Ama race. Keep up the amazing work Tiava!
